Hello, and welcome to my Graduate Portfolio!
This Portfolio was submitted for the completion of the College Student Development and Counseling program at Northeastern University, and it represents a milestone in my career. Before you dive into it, I’d like to share a little about myself with you.

My name is Carolyn Frantz, and I live in Cambridge, MA. I am originally from rural Ohio, but I’m an honorary Michigander! I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Vocal Music at Albion College in Albion, MI, where I met my partner of 15 years. We moved to Boston so I could complete my Master of Divinity at the Boston University School of Theology (BU STH). At BU, I engaged in student leadership through the CAUSE Justice social advocacy student organization, and through recruiting for the BU STH Seminary Singers.
After earning my first graduate degree, I ended up working in admissions for graduate health-related programs, where I discovered a passion for working directly with students. I found myself spotting signs of trouble on their transcripts, and I felt sad when I could not help them recover from serious academic mistakes. This desire to help college students make good choices led me to the functional area of Academic Advising, and to the profession of Student Affairs more broadly. I sought out resources from NACADA and an academic program to help me learn Student Development Theory– that’s how I came to NU! I chose a counseling-based program to help me address students’ needs holistically, viewing their academic challenges and successes within the broader contexts of their lives.
Over the course of the past two years, I have become enculturated to the field of higher education. True to Northeastern’s commitment to experiential learning, I have learned by doing in multiple Graduate Assistantships and my practicum experience. This portfolio and its contents are a manifestation of my learning and growth during my graduate program.
Through my coursework and various experiences in Admissions, Advising, and Orientation, I have become a budding Student Affairs Professional full of excitement, and ready to tackle the challenges facing our field. I hope that you enjoy reading about my experiences, and that you find something relatable or inspirational in something I express in my Portfolio.
